The Hotel San Marco is located in the historic centre of Tarquinia in front of the National Etruscan Museum.
We are situated in the old part of the town and overlook the National Museum providing a pleasant historical environment to compliment your stay for cultural, business or pleasure.
The Hotel was established as a monastery housing the Augustinian (Black) Friars in the 17th Century and has operated as an Inn since 1876. The comfortable, modern hotel rooms have been tastefully renovated to enable you to discover the history of the monastery and imagine the times of old when Augustine himself lived in these very rooms.
There is a permanent tour of the old Monastery buildings which illustrates the historical phases of the complex and allow tourists and those who stay to enjoy the best of this important work, fruit of centuries of the Augustinian Friars.
Restaurant & Cuisine
The restaurant offers a select cuisine, with a variety of meat dishes and fresh fish every day and an extensive wine list for you to choose from.
The atmosphere inside the San Marco restaurant allows you to relive the past and experience those moments and situations that have characterised the history of this old “home” of the Augustinian (Black) Friars.
Thanks to the extensive and dramatic reconstruction of the restaurant and rooms of the old monastery you will be able to connect with the daily reality of the Renaissance, rediscovering the traditional flavours and tasting the dishes that are linked to the local tradition.
The restaurant offers a wide choice of dishes from the menu of the Mystery of the Augustinian (Black) Friars with some dishes recreated from old cookbooks from the sixteenth century.
